Macau’s “928 Challenge” competition has won the prize for best startup ideation and competition program at the Angola Innovation Summit (AIS).

Launched in 2021, 928 Challenge is a startup competition connecting Macau, mainland China, with a focus on the Greater Bay Area, and the Portuguese Speaking Countries.

It is aimed at helping students to get international exposure and cultivating an entrepreneurship mindset.

“We are proud to receive this recognition for the work accomplished and being recognized as one of the best initiatives that contribute to helping to develop an entrepreneurial mindset in the Portuguese-speaking African Countries (PALOP)” Marco Duarte Rizzolio told Macau News Agency. He is co-founder of 928 Challenge together with José Alves, dean of the Faculty of Business at City University of Macau (CityU).

Rizzolio was one of the speakers at AIS alongside leading startup entrepreneurs and innovation experts from Portuguese Speaking countries.

The second edition of the 928 Challenge will be extended to companies.

A 15-day ‘online’ bootcamp, scheduled for October, during which teams must create sustainability-oriented business plans, said one of the coordinators.

The best plans will be presented to the jury and potential investors at the final, scheduled for October 29, during the Macao International Trade and Investment Fair.

In the first edition of the “928 Challenge”, in October 2021, 153 teams signed up with almost 800 university students, of which 89 delivered projects developed.
